Banana Story
The banana stared right into Sulie’s eyes with intent. She sat in the break room, nibbling on a stale cookie, completely disconnected and drifting off from the day.
What seemed to be happening was a cartoon banana on her coffee mug engaging in a staring contest with her. What a challenge. But something told her the banana would win this one.
“Beep! Beep! Beep!”
The alarm on her simple old digital watch beeped her out of the trance, as if it were calling the contest a tie.
She looked at the mug as if to say, I’ll get you next time, banana. It just kept smiling. What a silly bastard. She got up, left the cup on the table, and walked out of the break room to finish her shift at the pool supply warehouse she had been managing for the past seven years. She would have put the banana-faced cup in the wash, but the power had gotten to her head a little.
Still, not washing her dishes was about as far as it went.
