I Am Sauerkraut
I love fermenting things! I've been doing it for most of my adult life. Like most things I know, I taught myself how to do it. I'm still very much learning. I have taken many breaks from doing it. But this year, I started off with some classics: Kimchi and sauerkraut.
Kimchi doesn't take as long, and I've already been snacking on it. The sauerkraut takes about two weeks or a little longer. Every time I open my pantry, it's right there staring at me, reminding me what's to come. Lately, it's nice to see it. It's a little surprise because I forget about it. I have a self-burping system that I created so I do not have to burp my little baby sauerkraut.
It's not just a pleasant reminder that I'll have some tasty kraut in the near future, but it's a reminder that I am always fermenting. Whether I want to or not. Just like this cabbage that is changing and living, so am I. We both are one with the cosmos. Sure, I can go look anywhere in my house or the world for that matter and be reminded about this. But there's something about that dang sauerkraut that makes me a little emotional and excited about life.
I'm always making changes in my life and setting micro goals for myself along with habit tracking. So, I know I will not be raw cabbage in two weeks. Hopefully, I will be a tasty batch of sauerkraut.
